The Oenotourisme Lab is a collective project designed to boost innovation in wine tourism by providing project leaders with a network of experts to help them succeed.
A region focused on wine tourism
Champagne is a wine-growing region with recognized expertise. The Oenotourism Lab therefore benefits from many advantages:
- the Unesco listing of the Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne (Champagne hillsides, houses and cellars), which has raised the profile of our region and heightened awareness among professionals of the importance of wine tourism.
- the Contrat de Redynamisation des Sites de Défense (Contract for the Revitalization of Defense Sites) in the Châlons conurbation, a vector for territorial growth to support innovative and promising opportunities
- Semcha, a start-up incubator, offers a specialized coaching program.
- the know-how of the various project partners and their ability to create a favorable environment (networking, living lab)
The Wine Tourism Lab, growing innovation
The Oenotourisme Lab is the first lab in France dedicated to wine tourism.
Although based in Champagne, its vocation is to be a national platform for innovation in wine tourism.
To achieve this, the lab relies on a network of experts to offer specific, personalized support to project leaders, with the possibility of incubation. Thanks to this forum for experimentation and the sharing of ideas, this new tool aims to federate an entire eco-system dedicated to the development of wine tourism.
Wine tourism combines cultural and viticultural discovery
It’s a booming sector, with over 10 million wine tourists in France in 2016 and 5 billion euros in sales generated.
Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Alsace are among the most popular wine regions for tourists.
A national approach to tourism innovation
This project was born of the synergy of several partners: the Agence de Développement Touristique de la Marne (pilot), Châlons Agglo, the Office de tourisme de Châlons-en-Champagne and Semcha, with the support of the DIRECCTE Grand Est.
The French government is supporting innovation as a vector for tourism development, with the creation of the nationwide “France Tourisme Lab”. This is a national network of tourism incubators and gas pedals. The Oenotourisme Lab is part of this national drive to promote innovation.
