Reims owes its surrounding fortifications to Général Séré de Rivières (1815-1895). The massif de Saint-Thierry has many of these, but the most famous of them, la Pompelle, is located to the east of Reims. The hike around Trigny is a very relaxing one between the vines and the woods overlooking Reims.
