Balade à Compertrix

This spruce little village on the promontory overlooking the town and its valley is very old. There is a true story to prove it. Earth mounds formed on the Marne that would finish by becoming large hillocks, the Bouchon islets. They were considered as the property of the bishop, lord of the river. When they were sold as national property in 1794, the buyer planted them with willows. The years went by and he died. His widow eventually came to see the property, but the islets had disappeared. No doubt the result of a huge flood...
