Originating in New York, the “greeter” concept is now being exported to the Marne region with “Greeters en Champagne”, volunteer localswith a passion for their department. Each greeter offers to share “their” Champagne with visitors, welcoming them as they would a friend.
Greeters in Champagne are not professional guides, but welcome visitors asfriends, for the time of a walk to discover their town or village “off the beaten track”.
To preserve the authenticity of these encounters based on sharing and exchange, they welcome small groups of no more than six people.
In this way, each walk is unique : it depends on the personality of the visitors, the greeter accompanying them, and the affinities that develop between them.
Greeters are local people who are passionate about their region.
They would like to help tourists discover the region, sharing their favorite places, their favorites and their anecdotes during free, friendly get-togethers…
With a view to promoting and enhancing the department, the Agence de Développement Touristique and the Marne Tourist Offices have set up this network of greeters: the idea being that local residents are the best possible ambassadors to present the places in which they live on a daily basis!
