Sézanne

Petite cité de caractère® and Village Etape® (Small Town of Character® and Stopover Village®)

Sézanne, a city of medieval origins, is steeped in its past, and offers some very pretty walks. Discover ten centuries of history: remains of towers and walls, narrow streets, houses… all these old stones bear the history and anecdotes that made Sézanne what it is today.

Don’t miss the magnificent 16th-century church, whose massive 42-metre square tower dominates the rooftops. Its buttresses conceal ouvroirs, a sort of small shops set up within the church walls. As early as 1499, saddlers, tailors, boilermakers, bakers, goldsmiths, glassmakers… followed one another in the 23 niches. Four of them remain, housed in the tower’s buttresses.

Look up and stroll through the streets, where numerous curiosities catch the eye: sundials, dormer windows, statuettes, coats of arms and the magnificent Baltard-style covered market.

Take a romantic stroll through the picturesque lanes and let yourself be charmed!

Cyclo-Draisines du Grand Morin

Esternay

Once famous for its porcelain factories and basket makers, Esternay offers visitors a remarkable heritage: villages, churches, Briard farms, abbeys, châteaux, fountains… This land of vast agricultural expanses is also ideal for green tourism, with numerous hiking trails in the state forests of Traconne and Gault.

Don’t hesitate to extend your discovery in an original and fun way with the Cyclo-draisines du Grand Morin. Better known as “velorail”, the draisine can accommodate up to 4 people. There are two sites to discover: Esternay and Joiselle, for a great moment of conviviality on this former railway line.
