Small city of character

Surrounded by the Champagne vineyards and just a few kilometers north of Reims, Cormicy was completely destroyed in the First World War.

Its reconstruction in the 1920s and 1930s was exemplary. The town’s medieval layout was preserved, and its architecture is typically urban rather than rural. Even today, the little town has a very homogeneous heritage, with houses and fine residences built in the same materials – locally-produced clay-silica brick – and roofs covered with red tiles.

Only symbolic buildings were rebuilt with stone and slate roofs: the church, town hall and post office. It’s for these reasons, and the exceptional nature of its reconstruction, that the town of Cormicy is well worth a visit.
