Le circuit forme ensuite une petite boucle vers le\u00a0Tardenois<\/strong>\u00a0et les villages de\u00a0Bouilly<\/strong>\u00a0et\u00a0Courmas<\/strong>, avant de redescendre vers\u00a0Villedommange<\/strong><\/a>. Vous pourrez y cheminer jusqu\u2019au sommet d’une butte o\u00f9 se niche la\u00a0chapelle Saint-Li\u00e9.\u00a0<\/strong>Depuis le sentier, on embrasse du regard toute la r\u00e9gion de la plaine de Reims\u00a0!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One after the other, wine-producing villages follow one another on the hillsides. You’re in the heart of the “Petite Montagne”<\/g>, where you’ll be seduced by the richness of its churches: that of Sacy<\/g><\/g>with its long, elegant spire; that of Chamery<\/g><\/g> with its 57-metre steeple; then the one in Sermiers<\/g><\/g> with its bulbous steeple… Don’t hesitate to push open the door of one of the many winegrowers<\/strong> who sublimate the Montagne de Reims terroir to share their passion or taste their authentic cuv\u00e9es. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along the way, you may come across cyclists on the Parc de la Montagne de Reims V5101 departmental cycling route<\/strong>. This challenging 38.5 km route between Reims and Epernay passes through Villedommange, Sacy, Ecueil, Chamery and Sermiers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a stroll through the narrow streets of Rilly-la-Montagne<\/strong><\/a>a great name in champagne, or in those of Chigny-les-Roses<\/strong><\/a>where the memory of rose-lover Madame Pommery lives on. At the beginning of the last century, Emile Loubet, then President of the Republic, renamed the commune in honor of the magnificent rose garden surrounding Louise Pommery<\/strong>‘s country cottage, the family’s birthplace. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Several walks are accessible from each village, including the Escapade du Parc “Si Rilly-la-Montagne m’\u00e9tait cont\u00e9” (“If Rilly-la-Montagne were told to me”)<\/strong><\/a> or the Mailly-Champagne Discovery Trail<\/strong><\/a>which, between vineyards and forests, reveals the secrets of the depths of the Montagne de Reims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’ll then arrive in Verzenay<\/strong>, where a stopover is well worthwhile, notably at the Moulin de Verzenay<\/strong><\/a>. This emblematic Champagne site is not open to the public, but offers one of the finest views of the Champagne vineyards. Nearby, another scenic curiosity awaits you: the Verzenay Lighthouse<\/a> <\/strong>! This regional landmark, a former XXL advertisement for its visionary creator, is now home to a fascinating eco-museum dedicated to the vine. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

A few kilometers further on, marvel at the ancient village of Verzy<\/strong>. Head for Mount Sinai<\/g><\/g>a listed historic monument with its blockhouses<\/g>. Located in the Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park, this 286 m-high peak<\/g> still provides a viewpoint over the Reims plain, with a 180\u00b0 panorama to the north<\/g>. The orientation table<\/strong> created here is one of the focal points of the Verzy forest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right next door, you can access the Verzy national forest<\/strong><\/a>. This is the most visited protected natural area in Champagne-Ardenne, due to the presence of the famous Verzy twisted beech trees, otherwise known as Faux<\/strong>. With over 800 Faux spread over some 60 hectares, the Verzy site is unique in the world<\/strong>. This natural rarity has been protected by a classified site since 1932 and by a biological reserve since 1981. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

The location of Les Faux is thought to be the former gardens of the Abbey of Saint-Basle. It is thought, but not proven, that the Benedictine monks were responsible for preserving these trees until the French Revolution. The population of Faux, lacking access to light under the forest canopy, would not have survived without human intervention. Today, management of the Verzy forest by the ONF (Office National des For\u00eats) reconciles the preservation of the Faux de Verzy with timber production and welcoming walkers. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Faux de Verzy Biological Reserve<\/strong> is criss-crossed by a trail that has been awarded the Tourisme & Handicap label for all four types of disability (hearing, visual, motor and mental) since 2010. This walk is accessible to all, and allows you to observe around a hundred Faux trees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several fun tools are available to help you discover the Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park. Thanks to the the “En for\u00eat de Verzy” application<\/strong><\/a>an innovative educational tool from the ONF, you can take a fresh look at the Faux de Verzy. The only condition is that you download the application onto your smartphone before your visit! The Verzy forest is not covered by the network required to obtain the multimedia tool on site… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another option for getting off the beaten track in the Montagne de Reims: the adventure app <\/strong><\/a>“Le secret du Ch\u00eane \u00e0 la Vierge” adventureapp.<\/a><\/strong> Part escape game, part orienteering course and part geocaching, the Ch\u00eane \u00e0 la Vierge trail comprises 10 stations, covering 3.6 km and lasting between 1hr30 and 2hrs. Your mission? Find a treasure using QR code beacons located all along the circuit. The game is offered free of charge by the ONF, and is ideal if you’re traveling with the family. And don’t forget to download the app before you get there! <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n
